Character 21. A4 (crown, root part): tooth development: vestigial (0); developed (1); inapplicable (-). Remarks: Unordered. This transformation series is inapplicable to D. pulchellum and all species of Crocidura due to A4 absence. State of the outgroup Sorex species scored as a [state 1]. Outgroup Neomys species and three four-toothed ingroup species, S. etruscus, S. megalura, S. johnstoni display developed A4 (in different degree); this state determined by a coronal root part structures presence (Character 021: B). Two species, M. okuensis and S. murinus display vestigial A4 (Character 021: A). For details see S8.
