Ingroup species except for M. okuensis (Myosoricini), have both lateral and medial grooves of I1 root (Character 003: C,D). Outgroup species and M. okuensis have the lateral groove only; the medial groove absent. The medial surface of the root smooth (Character 003: A,B). For details see S8.
