Outgroup Neomys species and two ingroup species, C. yaldeni and C. lasiura display four roots of M3 (Character 042: A). Outgroup Sorex species and most ingroup species display tree roots of M3 (Character 042: B). Three ingroup species, C. jouvenetae, C. lasiura and C. zaitsevi display two-rooted M3 (Character 042: C).
