Femur detail, mid-cortex and periosteal surface. Scale=.5mm. During photography, this slide, as well as slides of the tibia and femur of this specimen, was wet with oil to increase light penetration. The oil has a different refractive index than that of water and the water-clear resin in which the specimen was embedded. As a result, under regular transmitted light LAGs and other areas of higher mineral density are not as distinct as in these photos as they are in those of other specimens).
