Media notes
Character 14. A2 (root): medial groove: absent (0); present (1); inapplicable (-). Remarks: Unordered. This transformation series is applicable only for A2 because this tooth in many crocidurin species (and probably in many soricins) displays structural reductions, namely a size decreasing and the root part relief smoothing (i.e. absence of the lateral and medial grooves). Outgroup species and most ingroup species bear a medial groove on the root part of A2 (well-developed or weak) (Character 014: A). Three ingroup species (M. okuensis, S. megalura, C. serezkyensis) have not the medial groove (Character 014: B). This character is inapplicable for N. fodiens (Character 013: C) due to this species have well-developed second root remnant. For details see S8.
